It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that 2020 has been a total sh*t show of a year. Time travellers of the future already know that the year 2020 is as gross to touch as a wet leaf. When we were in the height of it all back in early summer, I had no expectations of shooting any weddings this year, at all. That expectation slowly rose and eventually I somehow managed to capture a total of 12 weddings in the end (sneaking in a quickie in February before the curtains closed altogether). So, I’ll take that and announce it a minor success, considering what we were up against, and show you the best of 2020.
For all intents and purposes, 2020 should not have been a year worth reflecting on. However, in the nature of finding silver linings, in my humble opinion it’s all the more reason to look back on what went right. I may have only shot 12 weddings in a year that expected thrice that – but, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s a year that love won. It’s the year that my couples ditched expectations completely and had picnics on the beach instead of a wedding breakfast. It’s the year that hugs and embraces felt all the more sweeter. It’s the year that saying ‘I do’ was a privilege we realised could easily be taken away from us with just 24 hours notice. It’s the year we learned what really mattered.
So, purely to keep it chunky and full, I’ll be mashing together in this here ‘the best of 2020’ blog post, a bunch of my personal favourites from engagement sessions and weddings over the year gone by. Sure, there’s a distinct lack of party pictures going on, and certainly not enough hugs and squeezes for my liking. But, there are no fewer smiles and happy faces. I hope it will bring a bit of joy to your Christmas fog period. Get stuck in! Merry New Year, and bye-bye 2020.
