This is the year we remembered what we all love so much about weddings. After having an entire season demolished by the pandemic, both our industry and our couples came back with force, and a party attitude ready to rival all. Some saw the year out as an opportunity to downsize, keep things intimate – others saw it as an opportunity to go big, to celebrate in style. In 2021, I saw helicopter arrivals, 10-person intimate dinner parties, two dress changes, an anti-wedding dress, big Norfolk skies, tall Scottish landscapes, a Greeky ceremony in a Church of England, and a hand-fasting ceremony (or three). It’s undoubtedly been a diverse season, condensed into 5 short months that have utterly flown by. So much so, I haven’t really had a chance to reflect in the goodness until I stopped to collate this best of 2021 blog post.
There’ll never be another year like this – at least, in a way, we hope not. It has been the way it has been, as a result of all that came before it. Unique, uncertain, with gratitude and with hesitancy. Always unsure whether what they have planned will be as it intends to be. And, naturally, when it finally rolls around and those plans actually do come together, it goes just like that. These days are always, inevitably quick. Thank goodness for the power of images.
If we’re in the season of raising a toast, I’d like to just say my thanks to the class of 2021, and their tenacity. You were formidable. I’d recommend listening to a bit of Pet Shop Boys, or something equally rawkus and dance inducing as you scroll through!
P.s. it’s also worth mentioning, I have 1 wedding left to shoot just before Christmas, which means I’m sure I’ll be adding a couple of snaps to this post before the year is out!
