This year I photographed 40 weddings by plane, car and train across 3 countries, and delivered over 34,702 images. I visited venues I’ve been at a dozen times, and some venues for the first time. I worked with both old friends and new faces, and bonded with couples in a way that left me longing to know how the rest of their lives play out after departing each dance floor. I’ve eaten oysters under the sun, and visited the beach in a very windy storm. I’ve toked one too many cigars on my way to the car, and actually, not been handed enough margaritas on the job, to be honest. I’ve ripped a pair of capri pants all the way up the crack of my butt, and had to wear a guests’ maxi skirt whilst the venue literally sewed my trousers back together. I’ve helped a Bride perch on the toilet in her dress, Skims in hand. I’ve still not figured out what pose to pull in a photobooth. I’ve definitely stood through more than 100 speeches. I’ve met some very kind vicars, and stroked some very fluffy doggos. I’ve been witness to the most sentimental moments of a couple’s life and at times felt the privilege to be emotionally overwhelming.
But of all the varying experiences, and for all the beautiful, organised (and sometimes disorganised) mayhem that the 2025 wedding season has brought me, there is one thing that remains constant, year after year. And that is my gratitude. This might be how I put bread on my table, but to call this a job sometimes feels crass. It’s a delight. It’s a calling. It’s a hell of a ride. I still feel this way in my 10th year of work, and feel few people go through life feeling as lucky as this. Never mind a million pounds, this is the real lottery prize, if you ask me.
And as one door closes, another always opens. So here’s to 2026. I can’t wait to see how you all make your weddings meaningful and memorable – but if it’s anything like the last 10 years, we’re in for a proper laff.
